KLUE: What makes a city green?

With the help of the movies ‘AnInconvenient Truth’ and ‘Eleventh Hour’, awareness of the global environmental crisis has reached new levels. But even before that, since 1970, the year in which Earth Day was founded, every decade has witnessed a greater degree of pressure for businesses and governments to go green.

Now, the green cause has reached a point where the public might find it difficult to discern between marketing spin (“green wash”) from genuine efforts to help the environment. Individuals, organisations, businesses, governments, buildings, and even cities want to go green.
