My most recent column in the Sun newspaper, not on fitness or health!!! This time, I explored how broken Malaysian society is becoming.
Do we live in a broken society? It never really occurred to me much until I had a WhatsApp conversation with a young trainer two days ago. He asked me a question on his career: could he be a therapist and a trainer at the same time.
As I was thinking about it, I realised that was what most personal trainers and fitness instructors were. We help provide therapy too (which explains why most personal training certification have elements of life coaching incorporated in the syllabus).
As I contemplated this, I realised that more and more people are enrolling into courses such as counselling, psychology, clinical psychology and related fields.
Over the past few years, more people also seem to be aware of other emotional healing processes, such as hypnosis, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), meditation and a host of other alternative healing methods.
Is this a new supply created by a new demand? I think so. This proliferation of healing methods is indeed because we are getting more broken as a society.
