Since about 2016, I have always wanted to broaden my teaching horizons online. The COVID-19 pandemic worldwide catapulted me online. I had a few tech issues in March-May 2020, but I began to explore what avenues I have, aside from YouTube or Instagram.
What happened was life swooped in again in June of 2020, and my own in-person yoga classes, fitness personal training sessions and in-person reiki sessions took up all my time. Or… I just am bad at time management!
Whatever it is, I stopped preparing myself to take myself online more. Despite this piece that I wrote, I told myself that people preferred in-person yoga classes or 1-on-1 sessions, and because of that, I should just focus on what my community prefer.
Then… January 2021 happened, and Malaysia was back in lockdown. I admit, I went into one week of depression, refusing to do anything but read Cormoran Strike (I finished all five books in that week!).
But this time off yoga and working gave me a fresh new look at what I am doing and how I am doing it. I love teaching yoga. I love how it heals me and led me further down the road of meditation and energy healing. I love how it feels to practise yoga on the mat, and I love the idea that I may be able to help people fall in love with yoga too!
Our world has changed, and some say that it will take about seven years for things to return to “normal”. By which time, what would “normal” be? It’s time we just realise that we need to do things differently.
When I first started practising yoga, it was different from how it is now. My teaching of yoga is different from when I first started teaching. In fact, my yoga mat practice is different from time to time. Different is just different, not worse or better than. And if yoga has taught me anything, it is more skilful to not compare.
So let’s just do things differently from now on. Let’s continue to live and love, just differently. Let’s meet with friends and family, but differently. Let’s practise yoga, just differently. Let’s not allow what could be affect what is. Let’s do the same things, just differently.
