Freelancing is the new black. More and more people are braving it alone. It might seem a little strange that freelancing is growing popular in a tightening economy, but it is for this very reason that freelancing is fast expanding. In bad times, many businesses might not have the budget to hire full time staff, but they might be willing to hire a freelancer for projects.

After dabbling in part-time freelance projects for more than ten years, I began full-time freelancing (writing and researching, and occasionally consulting on legal matters and business development) about four years ago. Unfortunately, enthusiasm and knowledge of my field was not enough to get the ball rolling. Friends were constantly called for accounting and tax advice, while business literature was the usual fare for bedtime reading.
